Oncolytic virotherapy approved in Georgia

Developed in Latvia oncolytic virotherapy medicine was registered in Georgia, thus Georgia has become the second country, where this medicine is widely available. First this oncolytic virus was in registered in Latvia in 2004.

Until now, virotherapy was available for patients from other countries through medical tourism. As latest data shows, by now Latvia was visited by patients from more than 40 countries to receive virotherapy. Registration in Georgia will improve the availability of virotherapy not only in Georgia, but also in the Caucasus region. It is possible that also part of the Russian patients will prefer to receive Virotherapy in Georgia.

In May two delegations of Georgian doctors visited Latvia. Doctors were trained to apply virotherapy to treat cancer patients. Interest in virotherapy among Georgian doctors is high, so in the near future a few more delegations of doctors will arrive to Riga for training.
